In another accomplishment to be added to its track record, Dubai has received a certificate for being recognised as the first city in the world to successfully implement the U4SSC KPIs for Smart Sustainable Cities. U4SSC is a United Nations initiative coordinated by ITU, UNECE and UN-Habitat, and supported by 16 UN agencies to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 11: "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable". It seeks to recognise cities who have made the most progress in implementing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11.

“We are honoured to see the Emirate of Dubai take its place at the fore of the global smart-city sector, and to have our efforts recognised by prestigious UN organizations, with whom we’ve always enjoyed a successful long-term partnership,” said Her Excellency Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of Smart Dubai. “Smart Dubai’s solid vision to build a smart city centred around the happiness of its citizens reflects the forward-thinking vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, and the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.”

As the government entity entrusted with driving Dubai’s transformation towards a full-fledged smart city of the future, Smart Dubai accepted the prestigious certificate, representing the emirate. The certificate was given to Smart Dubai’s Strategic Planning Advisor Dr Okan Geray in Valencia, Spain during the 9^th Green Standards Week events, by the city’s Mayor and Dr. Chaesub Lee, Director of the ITU’s Telecommunication Standardisation Bureau.
